Day 24 - Checking the chickens are safely tucked up

Everybody should have chickens!  Our chickens give us the most delicious eggs.  Once you've had fresh eggs, no other egg compares ... no non-chocolate egg anyway ... and you can find yourself with a 2 egg a day habit.

And they put themsleves to bed at night!  We just have to make sure their door is shut once they're all tucked up so the foxes don't get them.

Ours are ex-battery hens.  They were a state when we got them; no feathers, pale combs, overgrown claws, unaccustomed to daylight and wobbly on their feet.  It's heartbreaking when you realise the conditions they're kept in.  It's taken a year to get them back to proper form.  Not all of them lay, but they're lovely to have about.
