![]() It's fascinating what certain members of my family believe a bookcase is for! For far too many months I have not been able to see my books for all the extraneous crap piled on and around the books. It took several hours to re-home the paperwork, toys, ornaments, coins and assorted debris. The result: a tidy bookcase, with books organised by type and topic, how very, very satisfying! ![]() Since I have a few physical challenges afoot this year, it's time to kick the training into gear. The best thing about a 7am RPM class is that by the time you've properly woken up and realised what you're doing, you're already sat on the bike and it's too late to change your mind! It's a pretty intense hour of sweaty exertion, thankfully in a darkened studio so it's less easy for the other participants to see just how sweaty and purple in the face I become. It does give you an incredible high though, and this morning I got home to find hubby had secured our places for the River Dart 10k swim! ![]() Everybody should have chickens! Our chickens give us the most delicious eggs. Once you've had fresh eggs, no other egg compares ... no non-chocolate egg anyway ... and you can find yourself with a 2 egg a day habit. And they put themsleves to bed at night! We just have to make sure their door is shut once they're all tucked up so the foxes don't get them. Ours are ex-battery hens. They were a state when we got them; no feathers, pale combs, overgrown claws, unaccustomed to daylight and wobbly on their feet. It's heartbreaking when you realise the conditions they're kept in. It's taken a year to get them back to proper form. Not all of them lay, but they're lovely to have about. ![]() This arrived. It's shiny and new and the old one was getting a bit slow so I'm happy with my new toy. But it is a double edged sword! While a smart phone is a valuable tool for work (and enables me to irritate my friends with daily #100happydays posts), I struggle with the omnipotence of technology. I resisted a smart phone for a long time before I set up my own business. I liked switching off at the end of the working day, going home, being offline and in the moment with my family and friends. These days it's hard to switch off from all the devices; to live in the real world rather than our virtual worlds! I watched 'I Forgot My Phone' recently and it resonated! Phones are part of modern day life, but wouldn't it be nice to live in the moment and enjoy the company of the people you're with, rather than constantly feeling the need to share the moment with the outside world? I love social media. I love being able to keep in touch with people more easily and get back in touch with old friends. And let's face it, we all love to know what's going on in people's lives without necessarily having to meet them face-to-face! But there are times when we should switch off the gadgets and live life for real. So, discipline is required with this new toy (she says, blogging away after hours). ![]() The plan was to cycle the 15 miles each way to and from Dad's, ride a further 20 or so miles with Dad, take great lungfuls of fresh country air on a nice Spring day, feel virtuous and enjoy a rewarding lunch. It's a long time since Rusty Bob (my trusty 2 wheeled steed) has seen the light of day and its quite a while since my steadily expanding backside has benefited from any exercise so I know this would have given me a sense of achievement. Rusty Bob and my bottom will have to wait a while longer for that particular happiness though. The plan changed, I drove instead and happiness came in the form of a simple, satisfying lunch of bread, cheese and ham and the company of parents. I love it when a plan comes together, but sometimes I love it when a plan doesn't! |
